I’ve Embraced My Bottom

In a recent article on his Web site, Derek Powazek recommends embracing the bottom of the page. I’ve whipped up a redesigned version of this site taking these ideas to heart.

A redesign of newburyportion that embraces the bottom of the page

I’m afraid I’ve plagiarised a little too freely: I doubt anyone would really want to send us anything by snail-mail. And I had to work in what’s becoming the trademark of newburyportion: the Ajaxy search.

All in all, I really like it. I like it better than the current design.

Were I to replace the current design, that would make an all-time record for shortest design lifetime of any site I’ve built. Hmm… tempting.

Nice work! I really like it, and I’m glad my little rant contributed to your inspiration.

Thanks Derek, I’m glad you like it. I am a little confused with what to put on the right hand side for pages other than the main index. Some of the stuff that was once there is now on the bottom. For example, the following image is a category/subject page, I’ve left the photographs in place, but I don’t think they should be there — they’re not related to the particular page.

I’ll figure it out eventually. This is just a new design style that I haven’t quite grasped yet.

    Thanks again for the feedback.
