Porting to WordPress
Now that I’ve decided to switch to WordPress (yes, Josh, I know you’re so happy), I need to figure out how I’m going to organise the site.
Currently, newburyportion is set up as three separate weblogs using Movable Type: the journal, nerd, and our photography site. This was made necessary by limitations of Movable Type, but now that things are set up that way, I’m inclined to leave it.
I suppose I could use three separate installations of WordPress, but that seems wasteful.
Is there anything similar to TextPattern’s sections within WordPress? Is it possible to have more than one blog?
And are there any decent photo gallery plugins?
Help?

You only really have one option: WordpressMu[1]. I’m not sure if you can import from wordpress2.0 to wordpressMu, but as it’s built on the same base code it may well be possible.
If you’re brave you could try WP-Multiplied[2], but since that plugin was designed for Wordpress 1.5 I doubt it would work without a large amount of hackery.

Well, I opted for a second complete installation of WordPress. I’m a little surprised at some of the basic features that are missing from WordPress — like multiple sites/sections and comment preview. Yes, some of them are available via plug-ins, but that’s not the point.
The other thing I’ve noticed is somehow my posts are getting munged. Not all of them, and not all the time.
I had to edit the latest post about TurboGears Identity framework three times before WordPress allowed me to have the images exactly like I wanted them.
And unfortunately, MarsEdit doesn’t seem to work well with the MarkDown plugin for WordPress…
